Why a Pinterest “GIF” may download as MP4

GIF is an older format. For short looping pins, Pinterest often serves a silent MP4 because it loads faster on phones. In the app it still looks like a GIF. The download may end in .mp4. That is normal.

If you specifically need a .gif file for a platform that rejects MP4, convert locally after download, and only when you have the right to use the content.

When to use the GIF tool vs the video tool
